Old Leica film camera, Austin Mini Cooper

There is no correlation between these two. But I like them both for the same reason. First of all, if you can keep them in condition, the older, the better. In other words, you get paid more if you can keep them longer in great condition. But honestly, I wouldn’t sell it if I had either of them, so monetary value is of no important to me.

Secondly, I own new products of the same kind. I own modern Mini Cooper, and I also have a Leica M10 which is the latest model from Leica M system.

It’s illogical that I am constantly attracted to both of them. Well, what can I say? Life may be illogical in the first place.

Well, it happened about two weeks ago, old Leica M7 came to me. I had no intention of owning it, but borrowing it for a week was enough to change the history. I took some photos and have the film scanned, then I was simply blown away when I saw what Leica M7 produced.

You would understand instantly why I had to buy Leica M7 even though I already have the latest Leica M system.

I see some of you are nodding aggressively, maybe I don’t have to explain at all. But I will.  Not only I took test photos with my dream car, Classic Mini “Austin Cooper S” performance version, but also the color from PORTRA 400 came out great. Vibrant while enough grain to make me feel it’s different from a digital photo.

Maybe impeccable classic Mini played more role in making me purchase Leica M7. Anyway, I like it a lot. In fact, this manual focus 35mm rangefinder film camera was introduce in the year 2002, so it’s not really old but it’s basically as same as its old model of Leica M3 (1954-1967) which captured lots of precious moments throughout the world history.

Well, here are more photos of Classic Mini with Leica M7 film camera.

I am very surprised to know that interior of the Mini Cooper Diesel from 2014 version has huge resemblance with Austin Mini Cooper S from 1961.

Years ago, when I first saw the movie “Italian Job” which is about a group of bank heist take their stuff back from a betrayer with Mini Coopers. I looked up a classic Mini and found that people restore it with fortunes. I couldn’t believe people spend money on the things that they can’t use daily. But now I do understand the value of restoring it.

I would’ve done it if I had the resources. But maintaining the classic Mini requires substantial investment, so I decided I will look for someone who restores the Mini as an alternative to my desire, then I could have the chance to see them often.

Here are some of more classic Mini Cooper images I took with modern Leica M and Q. Please sit back and enjoy the beauty of the old.
