Mini Cooper D in freezing winter

What do you do when it snows? I drive my Mini when it snows. Driving in snowy day is the thing you need to avoid if possible unless it’s out of necessity but I do like to drive in snowy day.

See my other posting about “Romantic Driving with Mini Cooper on a Snowy day” at this link. https://roaringengine.com/2017/12/21/romantic-driving-mini-cooper-on-a-snowy-day/

It seems like we have exceptionally cold winter in Korea. -15 Celsius feels like quite normal as we had lots of cold days in this winter. But when it gets cold, Diesel car performance gets bad. (Not considerably though, you won’t feel it unless you are really sensitive.) Gasoline fuel doesn’t freeze up, also it vaporized more easily at lower temperatures than diesel fuels does, which is very important for the engine when cold weather. Diesel fuel becomes like gel when it gets very cold. I am sure with modern cars, Diesel engine engineers must have done something special to prevent this to happen, but I still feel that my car performance gets pretty bad unless I wait for a while before driving whenever I start the car.

Since Diesel engine performs its best in low RPM while gasoline engine gets its best power in high RPM(fast speed), you need to take extra caution when driving in snowy day. When the road is slippery, if you hit the accelerator hard, your car will spin. However, once you get the hang of it, you don’t need to fear slippery road.

Due to performance issue in cold weather, I get conscious about Diesel engine topics more in the winter time. If you are like me, please be aware that carbon sludge will do more harm to your diesel car performance than the cold weather. When carbon sludge got built-up in your Diesel engine intake manifold, your engine got less airway to burn fuel which lead to bad performance. On top of this, your diesel car will give off more polluted waste through the car exhaust pipe.

Can you believe this photo was taken with a fancy looking BMW like below?

Owner of this beamer took great care of it. He changed engine oil more than necessary, and he cleans his car as if it’s a baby to him at all times. Three years went by, he thought his car is still as good as new. Indeed, it has low pollution emission with best performance. But what he did not realize is that it has low pollution emission because DPF(Diesel Particulate filters) systems took care of it. In other words, thanks to carbon sludge built-up it actually produced more bad waste, but DPF took care of it after it happened. But why do you let DPF gets busy? When you can eliminate the possibility of producing bad pollution in the first place?

According to the users who installed D Clean product, after about 100 km or so driving, users felt huge difference in driving performance, on top of this everyone said they felt less vibration which they took for granted with old diesel cars.

If you’re curious about this, please check out this link.

We believe users of D Clean is not only enjoying cars’ best performance but also they are contributing to the society by giving off less polluted air from the cars. I am sure you want to be an ecologically friendly person, aren’t you?
