Carbon sludge buildup on diesel engine components including the intake manifold, piston heads, combustion chamber, and intake valves can be initial stages of engine damage. There will be many problems arising from this carbon sludge accumulation, that in turn will make our car’s performance going down. Most people don’t know that this problem can also occur in the gasoline engine. Especially with the type of Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. When a vehicle is turning off, any remaining fuel and oil vapors rise into the intake manifold through open intake valves. When the vapors are cool, it forms as carbon sludge buildup on the mentioned parts of the engine. In the MFI (Multiport Fuel Injection) system, the detergents on the fuel will clean the backside of the intake valves. Since the GDI system does not have the auto cleaning feature, manual cleaning must be done to prevent engine damage.
Here the symptoms that you will find because of the carbon sludge buildup:
- Lower power due to decreased airflow on the intake valves
- Poor acceleration power
- Engine vibration (shaking)
- Reduce fuel efficiency
- Misfires engine
In the worst case, you will hear “engine knocking” sound. All of these are related with carbon sludge buildup issue.
To prevent these problems from happening, there are several ways that can be done to clean the carbon sludge. Or even prevent it before it is formed!
- Cleaning the engine parts manually
If you have an engine issue like above, the first thing you need to do is take your vehicle into your trusted mechanics. If it is discovered that you have carbon build up affecting your engine, the mechanic will have to remove the intake manifold and manually clean them. But this way is probably will take a long time and costs a lot. Because dismantling engine parts is not an easy job. So, I do not recommend this method too much.
- Fuel additives
Many types of fuel additives available in the market. They claim that by using additives it can prevent carbon sludge buildup in the engine.(But we don’t believe so, it might help some, but fuel additives can’t prevent carbon sludge building from happening.) In fact, the performance of fuel additives is not as best as expected. Its function is for the fuel and its surrounding issue, not to solve the engine problems related to carbon sludge buildup. - Using D Clean by BA Solutions
Being a defense contractor, BA SOLUTIONS did a lot of tests. As a byproduct, we(BA SOLUTIONS) found this technology. D Clean product consists of 3 components: cleanser liquid with its storage tank, adapter, and control system. The control system will automatically discharge the cleanser liquid when the vehicle is driving. In addition, to prevent the carbon sludge accumulation, D Clean can also remove the existing accumulated carbon sludge. By eliminating the cause of engine damage, the performance of our gasoline engine will be as good as a new car!
Carbon sludge buildup is not only a problem for a diesel car but also a problem for a gasoline car. After all, they are almost alike mechanically except types of fuel.
