Spend your vacation time outside Seoul (Gangneung-Pyeongchang area)

As a foreigner who lives in South Korea, I admit that this country has many attractive places to visit. Somehow it amazed me how the Korean government regulates its tourism system to be so well-managed. So it is very easy to find information about almost anything related to tourist attractions places. During my stay here, I always want to explore more new place because Korea has a strong traditional culture yet blend well with its modern culture. It is fun to explore a new place that is barely known to many tourists, making me better understand about Korean culture itself.

Most foreign tourists who visited Korea always spend most of their vacation time in Seoul. In my opinion, it is an unfortunate thing. Even though Seoul has many tourist attractions but this city is the most congested and busiest place in Korea. It makes us carry along with the Korean situations there which always moving fast, rush, and exhausted.

Last summer vacation, I got a chance to explore Gangneung-Pyeongchang area located in Gangwon province. Only two or three hours driving from Seoul but you can feel a different atmosphere there. These are listed in the places that I visited at that time:

  • Daegwallyeong Sheep Farm

If you are a person who likes natural scenery, this place is suitable for you. Without the bustle of the city, you can enjoy the fresh air for a moment without vehicle pollution. Last time I came to this place with a two-year-old boy who was very happy to see many of these adorable sheep.

With over 300 sheep graze on the vast field, you can be entertained by feeding the sheep with your own hand, reaching out to touch their fur, and taking photos with them at the beautiful scenery. This field surrounded by around 1.2 km walking train that takes about 1 hour to walk around. You also can enjoy hot grilled lamb and by some souvenirs all about sheep things. • Anmok Beach

The next day, still in the Gangwon province area we visited Anmok beach because it was on the east coast so it could clearly see the sunrise. We are enjoying the morning fresh air while looking at the beautiful sunrise. It is also very fun to talk walk exploring the beach and its surrounding. Luckily when we came here, there were not many visitors so we felt like going to a private beach.

This beach also famous for various cafe along the street that sells coffee at a reasonable price. You can read more about Anmok Beach in here (http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/enu/ATR/SI_EN_3_1_1_1.jsp?cid=1891502)

  • Jeongdongjin Rail Bike

Jeongdongjin rail bike is a seaside rail bike which you can enjoy the beach view while padding on the rail track. This place is very special because it is located near the beach. If you can arrive earlier than the reservation time, you can enjoy the beach atmosphere before driving a rail bike.

The total time needed to visit these three places is two days one night including a trip to Daejeon (where I live). So if you have a chance to visit Korea, don’t just making a visit to Seoul but make sure these three places are also on your bucket list!
